Epitome Road to Open Alpha
Studio video toward a richer public test — not a Steam launch, and not a dated street calendar.
In May 2026 the studio published a Road to Open Alpha video. Press recaps treated it as the next named door after Kickstarter pre-alpha: a richer test than the backer slice, aimed at summer 2026, then an open beta on the order of three months later, with a hoped-for full release by the end of 2026. This page records that pipeline as studio intent plus coverage, then puts the date that still matters for downloaders next to it: Steam app 3274530 still says Coming soon in August 2026. A roadmap video is not a store checkout.
If you need the funded campaign itself, stay on Kickstarter and roadmap. If you need what testers already poke, stay on pre-alpha status. This article is the open-alpha-shaped middle.
What the video is for
Kickstarter copy already described a sequence: about two months of closed testing updates, an open alpha on the order of three months, an open beta of unspecified length, then a hoped 2026 ship. The May video is the studio restating that the Kickstarter pre-alpha was “a first taste” and that open alpha should be a quality jump: more content, deeper systems, combat feel work. Italian coverage on MMO.it summarized that framing and repeated the Kickstarter close numbers: about €559,490 from about 20,194 backers against a goal near €85,897 that funded in 44 hours. Other trackers printed nearby totals. This wiki will not invent a second official ledger.
Watch the embed as a phase document. It will name systems. It will not install Epitome into your Steam library. Non-backers should not hear “open” and assume a public Steam playtest button exists today. Steam discussions in mid-July 2026 still pointed people at the website for closed-alpha talk. Treat website and Discord announcements from official links as the live door. Treat this wiki as the index.
June 2026 content shopping list
A 2 June 2026 recap of an official upcoming-content video (JeuxOnLine) listed work the team was finishing on the way to open alpha: resurrection protection, teleportation, boss animations, a new Orc zone, mail, an auction house, and equipment enhancement with success chances shown. The same recap said mounts, better monster AI, combat adjustments, map extension, and new enemies sat further down the list.
How to read that list without turning it into a patch bible:
- Mail and an auction house are social-economy promises. They matter if they land. They do not rewrite how to play if they are still missing in your client.
- Displayed enhance rates are a honesty feature. They do not prove the upgrade system is fair. They prove the studio wants the percentage on screen. Pair that with Steam’s already-listed in-game purchases and the no pay-to-win claim; do not collapse them into one slogan.
- An Orc zone is geography. Put it next to the official M2 teaser, not next to a fake continent count.
- Boss animation work belongs with dungeons and portals and the Blight teaser, not with a raid schedule.
If your backer client already has some of those systems, good. If it does not, you are still in pre-alpha. Do not file a bug against this wiki.
Summer intent versus August reality
“Open alpha this summer” was the May 2026 press reading. August 2026 is late summer. Steam still has no public download. That gap is the entire editorial point of this page. Possible honest states:
- The open alpha is delayed, still closed, or only reachable through epitomegame.com / Discord roles that are not a Steam playtest.
- The studio’s “open” means a wider test than Kickstarter backers, not “anyone with a wishlist.”
- The video is still the best public artifact of the next phase even if the calendar slipped.
This wiki will not pick a rumor. It will say Steam’s Coming soon label is the download fact, and the Road to Open Alpha video is the phase fact. When Steam, the official site, or Discord posts a public opt-in with a date, this page should gain that date. Until then, non-backers still wishlist and wait.
Free-to-play remains the planned model after a real launch, not a promise that open alpha is a forever-free public shard this week. Languages on Steam remain English, German, Polish, and Turkish. Engine copy still splits 5.4 versus 5.7. None of those lines are a street date.
How this hub should grow after open alpha actually opens
Create-screen changes belong on the classes hub and Morality Metrics. Scope changes (maps, cap, cities) belong on world and maps and pre-alpha status. Shop and Archon Seals talk belong here only when a public shop exists. Combat juice belongs in the first look until anyone can repeat a test on a public build.
Use planned systems for flying mounts, pets, housing, and the rest of the stretch poster. Use PvP and dueling if the thing you care about is 1v1 and open contact that already showed up in March patches.
Road to Open Alpha is a studio sentence. Coming soon is a Steam sentence. Keep both. Do not let the first delete the second.
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers for wishlist, classes, and pre-alpha questions.
Is Epitome open alpha on Steam right now?
Steam still says Coming soon as of August 2026. The studio posted a Road to Open Alpha video aimed at a richer test after Kickstarter pre-alpha. That video is not a public store download.
What did the May 2026 video claim?
Press recaps said open alpha should be a jump past the Kickstarter slice, with open beta on the order of three months later and a hoped 2026 ship. Treat the calendar as intent.
What systems were listed for the run-up to open alpha?
June 2026 upcoming-content recaps named resurrection protection, teleport, boss animations, an Orc zone, mail, auction house, and enhance rates on screen, plus later mounts and map work. Verify in your client.
I missed Kickstarter. Can I join open alpha?
Only if the studio posts a public wave. Watch [official links](/links/) and the [pre-alpha access](/guides/pre-alpha-access/) guide. This wiki cannot mint keys.
Is end of 2026 still the launch?
It remains campaign and video language, not a refundable street date. Track Steam’s Coming soon label until it changes.
